Purrinlot Persian Cattery - as a sample cattery set up
Purrinlot Cattery- a home where cats live
Welcome to the Purrinlot Cattery! Here is part of the house, with our Christmas tree all decorated in gold. To the right is my old office, where I do all my computing, research and web design. The flowers on the table were a gift to us for Granding GC Kynakats Breanna Megan of Purrinlot at the Santa Paws show Dec'98. Thanks Kate! :-)
Our home is where I grew up. In the early nineties, my mother was ill with cancer and asked if I would come back and take over the property. The house is minutes from where she lived. . . and minutes from the beach in Hampton. Today, I'm back in my original home which shares so many memories of growing up. Mom is with the Lord now, but I suppose I'll be in this home forever remembering so many wonderful memories. :-)
Merry Christmas Mom!
Here's a semi-peek inside our older smaller Persian cattery- we expanded the house:-)!
When moms are ready to deliver kittens, they are set up alongside my bed in my bedroom or the nursery. Babies are born under my supervision in the nursery. Each is weighed at birth and daily for one month to ensure proper health and weight gain. Kittens are handled daily several times a day to ensure good social skills. Once they reach 2 weeks, they are moved into the area shown at left. Each cage is 3x4x3 and doors are normally left opened. Moms have kitty condos, shelves, and free roaming, while babies are neatly bedded in extra large sweater box beds. Moms consider this area the play area with the cages considered playhouses. They can found sleeping inside more than outside on any given day. Once Kittens reach walking age and their first vaccination....they are allowed to roam and play on the cattery floor where several toy baskets can be found.

This is our grooming station within the cattery area. Kittens are taught grooming routines as early as 4 weeks of age. I always groom them on this grooming cart in order to get them used to it. To the right of the grooming cabinet is a shelf with grooming tools. Everything I need handy is close by. Upstairs, I have a shampoo closet where I bathe and dry kitties.
The wall unit is something I designed for the need of all those bottles of STUFF I like to buy, use, and play with:-) This area also has a refrigerator and medicine cabinet for medical needs.
A little crowded, but along this wall are the supplies needed in order to raise and keep a healthy and clean cattery. Also, A 3 tier wall unit that converts into a 1, 2 or 3 cage set up. The cattery consists of two large windows, one on each wall. We allow the adult cats to run this area that adjoins my bedroom. . The bedroom has large glass doors with an entry to the cats outside run area. It is decorated and painted in sunflowers, and was featured in the July 1999 issue of Cat Fancy magazine. It includes of several pieces of cat furniture, and a people swing which the cats love and use more then we do!
Quarantine is in a different location upstairs. New members in quarantine are kept here until all tests return from the vet showing the cats are completely healthy, including no mites and no fungus. ALL blood work must show FIP/FeLV/AIDS negative. Then after thirty days has gone by, I introduce new members slowly to the rest of the cat family. Purrinlot is a fully PKD free cattery .
This is what we are working toward: Better, healthier, happier Persian Kittens!
Busy working long ago! Many of my kittens grow up sitting with me as I work on my computer each day. On this day, my son Josh is making a phone call while Madatsin tries to help. :-) I also keep show cats separate from the cattery and nursery. This ensures I don't bring anything back from a show and spread it to the kittens.
